Reliable equipment care starts with regular observation and an appropriate response. Use this guide as general education, then follow manufacturer instructions and seek qualified advice for your particular site.
Start with accurate settings
Colder is not always better. Confirm that cabinet and room set points match the product being stored, then use an independent calibrated thermometer to verify actual conditions. Excessively low settings increase run time and can damage some stock.
Keep heat outside
Replace split or flattened door seals, close doors promptly and consider strip curtains in frequently accessed cool rooms. Keep refrigeration equipment away from ovens, direct sun and other heat sources where practical.
Protect airflow
Do not pack products against supply or return vents. Clean condenser coils and filters on the schedule recommended for the environment; greasy kitchens and dusty stores generally need attention more often.
Use data to guide improvements
Compare electricity use, operating hours and service records over time. A sustained increase can reveal a developing fault. When equipment approaches end of life, compare whole-of-life energy and maintenance costs rather than purchase price alone.
Never bypass a safety device or attempt electrical or refrigerant work unless you are properly qualified and authorised. Protect people first.
